Three new pieces originated by the cooperation between Maserati and Zanotta join elegant design and innovation. A shared project reached the second edition, and destined to look at the future.
The launch of Maserati by Zanotta Capsule Collection, designed by Ludovica+Roberto Palomba for Salone 2014, reaffirms the successful and precious collection originate by the two brands in 2013 with the very first element, i.e. the Grandtour lounge chair: three strong pieces, ranging from the Maestrale writing desk, to the Corina chair and Grandtour footrest. The Capsule Collection, inspired by the style and elegance of the famous cars with a learned and measured know-how, shows the result of an elective affinity between two companies of excellence. “The creative synergy is renewed by three self-standing pieces that share the same aesthetical DNA of the armchair, made of comfort and high-quality craftsmanship. “Natural leather and shape” could be the perfect synthesis explaining the project basis: the natural leather in soft shades and the ergonomic and welcoming shape” the designers explain. “As for the Grandtour lounge chair, the footrest is also inspired by the semantic universe of Harry Bertoia, the excellent Italian designer who settled in the USA in the early ‘30s: exquisite technical skill is accompanied by a great passion for formal experimentation. A small item that matches the relaxing seat, but can have a life on its own”. The pouf enters the collection as limited series (as the lounge chair). The steel base can be chrome-plated or glossy black nickel-plated, with a stiff polyurethane frame and polyurethane/Dacron Du Pont upholstery; the exterior quilted cover is removable in three leather shades: dark grey with light grey edging, light grey with mud edging, mud with light grey edging. A noteworthy remark: thanks to the cooperation with Ermenegildo Zegna, a world-famous menswear brand, the lounge chair and the footrest are offered in a special limited edition of 100 units, dressed in a precious 100% silk fabric produced by the Zegna Wool Mill, in combination with the leather. A tribute to the 2014 centenary of Maserati, going side by side to the project of Quattroporte Limited Edition of hundred cars that Zegna has designed with the famous Maserati model. For the second piece of Maserati by Zanotta range designed by Ludovica+Roberto Palomba, the craftsmanship of the shell reminds to the high performance seat project of this high-class car: the Corina chair a piece where the refined materials match an industrial-artisan production. “The seat features a stiff polyurethane shell with a rod frame and a removable leather cover. So far, the best simplicity and comfort. The workmanship of the shell cover however amazes for the series of cambers and seaming reminiscent of a typical British gentleman’s style driving his own car”. In Roberto Palomba’s words emerge the qualities that are part of a living space, reinterpreted along the lines of the Maserati by Zanotta Capsule Collection: the comfort of a “flagship” car and the light design of the armour, provide a soft sprung of the seat. To complete the range, the designers have conceived a writing desk with a strong sign and discreet elegance. “Maestrale wants to offer the possibility to create a corner space for studying or working at a high profile contemporary home, in the living room or the bedroom. The winning features are elegance and tactile softness” the designers affirm. This writing desk, thanks to the use of high thickness Canaletto walnut or of refined cowhide, matching the light rod steel frame, perfectly fits the Corina chair. As Palomba points out: “The linear shape on one side and the classical and pure materials on the other, allow the desk to fit at the same time other kinds of seat”. The writing desk can come with chrome plated or glossy black nickel plated steel legs; the top in Canaletto walnut or cowhide pigmentato features a convenient drawer.
